The Dynamic Ecological Information Management System – Site and Dataset Registry (DEIMS-SDR, https://deims.org) is a web service, which allows users to both discover and register long-term ecosystem research sites around the globe. Users can also access the data gathered at sites, and the associated networks.

DEIMS-SDR describes a wide range of sites, providing a wealth of information, including the site’s location, ecosystems, facilities, parameters measured and research themes. It aims to be a globally comprehensive site catalogue of in-situ observation or experimentation facilities covering all (terrestrial) biomes and enabling that standardised information to be openly available to all.

As one of the tasks in a large scale European Union project site information data from the National Environmental Monitoring Sites Register (NEMSR), the DEIMS-SDR and the Integrated Carbon Observation System has been harvested and processed via a series of Python scripts. These scripts automatically connect to these systems, collect all site information and load them into a dedicated solr index based on a set of common information found in all registries.
