Vocabulary content

Vocabulary content can define concepts and their relationships in a hierarchical structure. A vocabulary concept always includes a preferred label and definition; however additional SKOS properties (fields) are available to support a better understanding of the concept. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • exactmatch: Concepts of different concept schemes (thesauri) or linked data which are identical.
  • altLabel:It can be alternate words or phrases used to refer to a concept. This includes synonyms, acronyms, abbreviations and irregular plural/singular forms.
  • notation:A classification code uniquely identifying the concept in the concept scheme.
  • source: Describes a related resource from which the described resource is derived and may be used to capture citation.

Further information on concept metadata is available in the NEII Vocabulary Service User manual.
